Journal Of Good Animation - All Bottled Up
This is the second of the premier episodes and it is a Starlight/Trixie episode. The episode starts with Starlight making cakes for Twilight and Trixie trying to turn a salt shaker into a teacup. She gets annoyed that it isn't working but after some help from Star, it works and in her excitement she ruins Starlight's cupcakes. Star is annoyed but calms herself down and Trixie gives her pretzels to give to Twilight. The mane 6 are going away to hang out and Starlight stays behind with Trixie to help her with her magic and Spike stays to read some new comics. A decent way of writing Spike out of the friends plot. Star gives her the pretzels with Twi due to Trixie obviously unimpressed and Star annoyed. Star and Trixie also mock the mane 6 as they will end up singing songs. A good little joke. Anyway, Trixie and Star go back to the castle and practice magic with Trixie wanting to do a teleportation spell. Trixie then annoys Star by bringing up her past issues with magic. This start of the

This episode starts with Spike distracting Starlight as Twilight gets measurements of her desk. I have to say right now that Spike is hilarious throughout the entire episode and has some great interactions with Twilight. So, Twilight was getting the measurements for a mirror for Starlight's room which she was to give to her as a gift for her success in the Season 6 finale. After some banter with Spike, they go to the party where the 4 heroes receive their medals and we get a good joke about Thorax's horns. This episode is really funny, not just Spike though he is the main man in this. Twilight is proud of her student and Celestia jokes about the parallels between Starlight and Twi. Dodsley's Thoughts - Top 12 MLP Songs
One of the best things about MLP is the songs in the episodes as most sound really good with a few exceptions so I thought I would do a top 12 list. It was going to be 10 but I couldn't miss out the lower two.  This is just a fun little list, I am not the best when it comes to music, Pinkie Pokie was close to being on here. This list is also only main series, no EG. For reference, Battle of The Bands would be 7th and Under Our Spell would be 5th. I will provide some explanation on some of them if it is necessary.
12. Out On My Own (S6, E03, On Your Marks)
11. Becoming Popular (S2, E09, Sweet and Elite)
10. Smile (S2, E18, A Friend In Deed)
9. Hearts As Strong As Horses (S4, E05, Flight To The Finish)
8. Babs Seed (S3, E04, One Bad Apple)
7. Rules of Rarity (S5, E14, Canterlot Boutique) This song is more about the story than the actual song. It is a decent song but the story of the song pushes it above.
6. Fly (S5, E05, Tanks For The Memories)
5. A Changeling Can Change (S6

Dodsley's Thoughts - MLP Season 6
The big wrap-up of the season, this is going to be slightly different to the Season 5 wrap-up as I have reviewed every episode. For each episode, I will give a rating out of 5, 5 being brilliant, 1 being poor. Then, I will do a running total and percentage, 80 for an A, 70 for a B and so forth. For reflection, I found Season 5 to be 67.5%, a high C. For the episodes, I will give a short explanation of my score and a link to the review. At the end, I will do some reflection.
The Crystalling
Probably the weakest overall two-parter. It tries to do too many things at once, and it fails. It ends up being a muddled mess which is a bit boring. The two mane stories aren't bad but the Crystalling could have been its own episode.
Score : 2/5

This two-parter starts with Starlight receiving a letter from Derpy from her old village inviting her to the sunset festival. She is obviously worried about this and has a nightmare where Luna tells her to tell her fears to the mane 6 as they helped her with her problems. The dream sequences are used really well. She talks to the mane 6 and express her fear that they won't accept her, they tell her that the ponies wouldn't have invited her if they didn't want her to go and Twilight suggests she bring a friend along, obviously wanting to go. However, Starlight chooses Trixie who rubs it in with Twilight obviously annoyed, it is a very well done scene that is hilarious. They travel to the town and Starlight is still thinking about her past. She meets the ponies and they all seem really happy she came and even want her help running some of the events which causes her to panic as her leadership was what put her in this situation in the first place. This episode starts with Rainbow Dash in the WB academy talking about a big week she has planned, when Spitfire walks in annoyed that she has to stay behind for recruits week. Spitfire is used really well in this episode, she is a good leader but is still friendly enough. Oh and Rainbow has come to terms with the Crash name, Spitfire calls her it but Misty doesn't at the end of the episode, just something weird I noticed. Anyway, Dash is flying back and her cutie mark glows, it is a map episode, duo is Dash and Twi, location is Wonderbolts Academy to get a good joke out of Rainbow. They fly to see Spitfire drilling the new recruits, and it is decided that Twi and Dash will help them learn in order to get to know them. Twilight is put in charge of the classroom section to her delight and Rainbow is put in charge of helping to coach. We are introduced to the mane recruits in the classroom scene, Sky, the most confident pony who believes everything is beneath him, Vapor Trail, his wing po

Dodsley's Thoughts - Where The Apple Lies
This episode starts with AJ and Big Mac giving filthy rich his usual supply of zap apple jam. However, when they enter the barn, it seems Applebloom has stocked everything away in crates which she hasn't labelled. She lies and says she knows what is in each crate but when AJ opens them, she finds the zap apple jam. She sorts the issue out with Filthy, who seems quite worried that granny smith might think he was trying to trade cider, which is against Apple family rules. AJ asks why Applebloom lied and says that lies never help, to which Applebloom questions, as AJ never lies. The other apples laugh as AJ used to lie a lot as a filly and it transitions to a flashback. AJ and Big Mac are bickering over who should run the farm. AJ has good ideas, but Big Mac, who talks a lot for irony, says that strength is more important. They are sent into town by Granny who wants them to get some blight spray. In town, they run into Filthy Rich who is recently engaged to Spoiled Milk. Filthy has just t

Dodsley's Thoughts - P.P.O.V. (Pony Point Of View)
This episode starts with Rarity, Pinkie and AJ returning from a boat trip. Twilight is excited to see them as they went to get out of their element and were really looking forward to it. However, it soon appears that things aren't okay and they all seem angry at each other. Twi organizes a meet-up to get them to clear the air, however they just send their pets. By the way, this episode is pretty funny not as funny as some recent episodes but still pretty good. Twilight and Spike goes to see Rarity who tells them that it was AJ's fault and describes her as a pirate, okay then. Also, Spike gets no respect. Twilight says this sounds a bit over-the-top and it doesn't sound like AJ so they go to Pinkie to see her side. She blames it on Rarity, saying she tried to make everything posh and cultured and tried to ruin everything, while Pinkie tried to let her friends have fun with games. AJ is the final pony and she blames it both of the other two, sating that Pinkie was no help and Rarity was

This episode starts with Starlight and Twilight doing magic lessons. Wait, why is Twilight teaching her magic?. Starlight was shown to be her equal if not better in The Cutie Remark. I guess they enjoy magic and Twilight might know more spells. Anyway, Starlight is impressing with her magic even doing a duplication spell but it seems she isn't progressing at all with the friendship side of her learning. Twilight tells her that she should do a lesson by the time they return from a presentation in Canterlot. We get a few good jokes from Spike and they leave with Starlight deciding to combine 5 lessons with the mane 6 into one afternoon to impress Twilight. She gathers the rest of the 6 in the castle and tries to send them to different parts of the castle in order to be as efficient as possible. However, they all habve issues with where they are, Rarity doesn't like the dusty library, Dash needs a good spot for optimal chill-laxing, Shy's animals need different locations and AJ has 80 moo

Dodsley's Thoughts - Viva Las Pegagus
This episode starts with AJ and Fluttershy being called by the map. They are sent to Las Pegasus, basically Las Vegas, and they obviously aren't very happy about it. They meet the owner of a hotel there called Gladmane, who has similar mannerisms to Elvis. They chat and he knows who they are as he is a self-proclaimed 'friendship connoisseur'. He gives them a tour of the resort and they run into several employees who all love Gladmane and call him a true friend. AJ and Flutters seem a bit confused as they can't find a problem, until they hear the familiar tones of Flim and Flam. It turns out they have a friendship problem, but AJ refuses to help and promises to find another problem. Flim and Flam have fallen out over a disagreement in business, and when AJ can't find a problem, she finds that the employees have all fallen out with their friend or partner over similar issues. They both realize that these issues have benefited only one pony; Gladmane. They try and talk to the other ponie

This episode starts off with the CMC talking to Petunia's parents about her cutie mark, which the parents seem oddly fearful of. The mark is of a skull and two bones, which the parents believe mean she is a pirate. It runs out she is just an archaeologist, which is quite funny, especially as I want to be an archaeologist. Anyway, they go through Ponyville talking about how they have helped tons of ponies and that they could solve any case. However, Sweetie Belle tells them that there may be a time when the challenge is too great. So, we know what this episode is going to be, their big challenge. It turns out a griffon called Gabby is waiting for them at the clubhouse and she wants a cutie mark. We find out that she wanted to help and be kind to her fellow griffons and when the ponies visited in The Lost Treasure Of Griffonstone, she realized that there was groups that were kind to each other. So, she came to Ponyville to see that life and was sent to the CMC by ponies they have helped.

The next day, Fluttershy and Pinkie are with the team on their way to practice. The team needs to be made up of a pegagus, a land pony and a unicorn. I should say right now that this episode is really funny, Pinkie has a great appearance. So, Pinkie and Shy are brought in to help the two train while they look for a unicorn. AJ explains the game and they start, with Pinkie showing some good skill which stuns AJ. Flutters is nervous but warms up to the game, putting on a good performance. Dodsley's Thoughts - Dungeons And Discords
It is the Discord episode and one that is important for him after last season's poor attempts. This episode starts with Discord at Fluttershy's but she has to leave to Yakyakistan. This upsets Discord but she tells him that he could spend some time with Spike and Big Mac as they have a meet-up when the mane six leave. Discord is offended by this, calling himself a Mane-sick to their sidekicks. Then, we get the one of the funniest scenes of the show, Discord teleports them to an opposite dimension, leading to opposite fluttershy tearing him a new one. It caught me off-guard and is freaking hilarious. So, Fluttershy tells him that expanding his friends is always good and she heads off to the train tracks. Discords tries to make her stay by using his magic to send the tracks into a volcano, but she makes him correct it. Spike and Big Mac see excited for the ponies to leave. Journal Of Good Animation- Times Are A Changeling
This episode starts with Twilight and Glimmer on the train to the Crystal empire, we get a good joke from Starlight and then we see Spike is also on the train and he is in a disguise so he doesn't get swamped. Starlight mocks him but when they get off the train, there is no one around, and only when Spike removes his disguise do the ponies finally swarm. It takes Twilight way too long to realize changelings are around though. All the ponies are talking about appearances and not believing them and she can't put the dots together. It is a small point but Twi should know. They meet up with the royal guards and Cadence does the hand-shake to prove Twilight's identity. Then, Shining Armour fills them in on the changeling situation and sends Spike with the guards to find the changeling. We get some good dialogue from Spike and Twi, and Spike leads the guards out on the hunt. Journal Of Good Animation - 28 Pranks Later
Today, MLP will be parodying a zombie breakout movie, which is pretty cool. The episode starts with Fluttershy returning home through the woods at night. There appears to be a figure stalking her and her animal friends, but we can clearly hear it is Rainbow Dash, which is quite nice. When they do these prank monster scenes, they usually give no audio or visuals clues to who it is but you can clearly hear Rainbow's voice. She scares Flutters and reveals herself, angering Flutters and her friends so much that she calls a meeting between the mane 6 to discuss it. They are angry with Dash, except for Pinkie who finds it funny. Twilight tells her that the ponies may not like her pranks and she should consider their feelings, giving us the moral quite quickly and it is a nice moral. However, this is the main issue with the episode, they are quite strong with the moral, and this makes the entire episode predictable. If you have seen a similar episode before, you know which points are coming n

This start of the episode is pretty good, it sets up the plot well and Star is clearly hiding her anger from Trixie. Trixie continues to mock the mane 6 with a small friendship speech and suggests she teleport Spike but they settle on an apple. They place it on the friendship table and because Trixie rushes through with the trick, she teleports the table instead. This is where the episode starts to go downhill. It isn't too bad but Trixie comes off as a massive asshole. I wouldn't mind if she wasn't blind to the obvious and asked about Starlight before she couldn't ignore it. This is the same pony who sacrificed herself to a hoard of changelings. Like I said, it isn't too bad, you need her to be somewhat oblivious and self-centered to get the plot going but the smile on her face gets quite annoying. Starlight decides to bottle up her emotions to avoid losing Trixie by potentially hurting her, and Spike doesn't really care. He warns her but then he just accepts it, which seems a bit odd. Maybe he should have gone a bit further or at least told her that he didn't accept it. Star and Trixie decide to retrace her steps to what she was thinking of before she teleported the table. This leads them all around Ponyville to Bulk Biceps, to the gem store and to Sweet Apple Acres, with Starlight becoming weaker as she gets drained of her magic. Trixie then believes she may of been thinking about the Crystal Empire and a dejected Star sets off and Trixie finally notices something is up. She notices the magic being drained and tries to see what is going on. This leads to the bottle breaking and the anger being released to Bulk, the Gem Store owner and Granny Smith. They start to attack Trixie with Starlight unable to help as she is left with no magic. Starlight eventually admits she is angry taking the magic back and shouting at Trixie. Trixie apologizes and the resolution is really sweet. They both learn their lesson and Trixie remembers what she was thinking of. It was the Spa because she was thinking of the first time they met. That is adorable. They bring the table back just as Twilight is back and she is proud to learn they learned a friendship lesson. Rarity then suggests a spa day which causes Trix and Star to panic and we get a nice joke to round out the episode. The other plot is the mane 6 at an escape room. It is a basic friendship plot with song and all, it is really funny to the point of being a parody of what MLP is seen as. The whole friendship song and the hug at the end really makes the plot and them not beating the time due to song is a nice touch. Also, it works well with the other plot and offers a fun contrast. Overall, I like the episode but I don't love it. Trixie's behavior rubs me the wrong way and goes a little too far and Spike's lack of interest seems a little off for his character. However, the episode has enough emotion and it is hilarious. The song is nice and over-the-top in all the right places. The moral is good and there is clear character growth.

This season starts with two separate episodes for the first time and I will be reviewing them separately, starting with Celestial Advice. Then, Discord asks what the big plan is for Starlight and laughs off Twilight's idea for more friendship lessons as Starlight has progressed beyond. He continues to goad Twi for more information, causing her to panic and run to the library. Spike notices this and runs after her, finding her reading through notes and realizing that Starlight has completed all her lessons. Realizing her mentor had her plan thought out, she decides to run off and find Celestia to seek her advice. Twilight explains things in her hectic way, while Spike plays straight man, I have already said how good he is so I won't mention him again but his reactions really help bring the episode together. Twilight reaches the conclusion that she needs to send Starlight away to continue her lessons. She first thinks about the changelings and sets up the main gimmick of the episode, Twilight's visions. She sees the changelings as an opportunity to increase Star's development and knowledge while helping the changelings but becomes scared that the changelings will hound her out. Celestia is good here, offering some insight into the possible path while allowing Twilight to see it herself. Also, the Celestia expression joke is really funny. Next, she imagines sending Starlight to the dragon kingdom with Ember but then is scared that Garble will try and kill her. Finally, she imagines that she sends Starlight to work with Sunburst in the Crystal empire. However, she then starts to panic that this will lead her to sucking herself into a vortex. This one causes her to break down in tears until Spike calms her down. Then, Celestia starts laughing like a maneiac for a good 10 seconds causing Twilight to feel mocked. Celestia tells her she was laughing due to her own similar fears when she sent Twilight away. This leads to a flashback which gives Celestia her best character development since probably the Equestria Girls movie. This is a really well-done scene with some great emotion. Celestia admits she was scared of sending Twilight away in case she didn't need her anymore. Twilight admits she is having the same fears and they embrace. That checks the first mark on the wishlist I had. Celestia develops into that mother figure she always kind of was and the focus on the moon when she says she needs to send her away is great. By the way, what in the name of Celestia was up with the mouths of the mane five in the flashback, manely AJ. It looked so weird. Anyway, Twilight makes her announcement that Starlight is graduating which takes her by surprise. Her friends suggest things to celebrate but Starlight goes to see Twilight and admits she isn't ready to go. Twilight is relieved and gives her the mirror. We end on a nice moment and then a good Pinkie joke. This ending has been criticized for being anti-climatic and going against the idea of the episode. However, the whole point was that Starlight needed to go to progress her training when she is ready. Celestia even says she kept Twilight too long implying Twi was ready for the change, each pony's path is linked to their own experience. For example, university is good for a lot of people as it gives them life experience as well as education. However, it is a personal decision that someone needs to be ready for. It should be offered to everyone but it is up to that person to take it. Overall, I really like this episode. Spike turns in a very good performance as the straight man to all of Twi's worries as well as caring for her. Twilight shows great development and Celestia gets the best growth she has ever gotten. The emotion is in the right place and the episode is really fun to watch. It would have been nice to see the episode start a little earlier without all the talking at the start but then, it would have made the later scenes feel repetitive if there were more. A very solid opening for the season.

Real Question, why does this episode exist?. I don't get it. Steven Universe is a phenomenal cartoon with lots of secrets and stories going on at once. The Lion episodes are often little glimpses into the past with Steven's mother. However, this episode just confirms everything we already knew. We'll go into the episode and I'll show you what I mean. Steven starts by watching his tape from Rose and re-watching it, trying to figure out his purpose. This feels out of the norm for Steven even recently. He has never really being concerned with a magical destiny and his birth wasn't a big question mark. He knew he was born to just be himself, he has been reassured on that point and it was basically said in Lion 3. It feels out of place. Anyway, Steven wants to find out and after some pestering, Lion takes him to the desert which leads to his mom's landfill. They find another tape which is called Nora's tape. This angers Steven as he believes he has a sister somewhere and begs Lion to tell him what this means. Lion takes Steven to Greg who is surprised by the tape. He shows Steven the tape which is just his but with Nora's name in place of Steven. Steven is confused by this and Greg tells him that Nora is just his female name. Steven asks if Nora would have the same destiny and we get the talk that Steven doesn't need to live up to any destiny and that he just needs to be himself, that is all Rose wanted for him. Steven is happy with this and hugs his dad. I guess the point of the episode was to give Steven some closure in this arc but it just feels really repetitive. The episode feels like a re-run of Lion 3 with not much gained. The episode idea itself is not the problem but the episode is written in a way that makes it boring, predictable and unsatisfying. We know who 'Nora' is, you can probably guess who she is from the title of the episode. Like I said, an episode where Steven meets his demons of thinking he needs to live up to his mother and a bit of a reminder is not a bad thing. Many shows have episodes where the main character needs to be reminded of something but a big problem is that this episode treats the idea as a first time thing which it isn't. If the episode was more about relating past episodes to Steven's fears then it could work. For example, Steven has a dream where he sees him poofing Bismuth, it then focuses on Bismuth then pans to reveal Rose holding the sword. Then, the dream goes to the Pink Diamond mural which awakens Steven. This causes him to run away, he is found later by Greg who asks why. Steven says he is scared, Greg tells him it is okay to be scared as these monsters are a lot to deal with at his age, however, Steven shakes his head and tells him that isn't what he is scared of. He asks what and he says he is scared of becoming her. Then, we get the talk. In the end, Lion 4 isn't awful and the idea of  the episode is  fine but the episode just seems repetitive. I can see where it is going and it feels like I have seen it all before. This episode seems to exist to repeat everything previous episodes cemented, it didn't need to be a Lion episode as it hinders the idea of the episode.

  4. Which kids show do you think should get "Space Ghost Treatment" (aka, be made for adults)?
  5. Do you think that a channel that airs kids shows and adult shows without separate time slots could work?
  6. Do you think there should be more dramatic adult animated shows?
  7. Which actor or actress do you think has the sexiest voice?
  8. Who's your favorite Batman (doesn't matter if it's animated or live-action)?
  9. Who would win in a fight: Samurai Jack or Rick Sanchez?
  10. Is Yondu Mary Poppins?
  11. Do you think Adult Swim should be its own separate channel?
1. I think you could do something cool with Futurama, maybe doing it in the style of The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings.
2. Don't buy too many so probably Marshall Mathers LP 2.
3. Will McKenzie, he has done so more serious work but I still feel he could expand more.
4. If you toned it down slightly, Uncle Grandpa could be made it a good surreal adult comedy.
5. Maybe, if the adult shows were a bit tamer than crap like Mr Pickles.
6. Yes, there needs to be a development of the media of adult animation in general.
7. Gabriel Macht.
8. Kevin Conroy.
9. Probably Samurai Jack, I just feel Rick would get bored and let his guard down.
10. Not going to touch that one.
11. At this point, yes, it is a complete separate entity anyway.

5. A Changeling Can Change (S6, E16, The Times They Are A Changeling)
4. All Magical Mystery Cure Songs (S3, E13, Magical Mystery Cure) Cheating slightly but the whole song list is great and this list would be full of different songs.
3. The Light Of Your Cutie Mark (S5, E18, Crusaders of The Lost Mark) Was close to putting all this episodes songs in a group as well but this is my favorite by a distance. Even with The Pony I Want to Be's weird ass visuals.
2. This Day Aria (S2, E26, A Canterlot Wedding)
1. You'll Play Your Part (S4, E25, Twilight's Kingdom) That Three Princess Chorus though.
