Dodsley's Thought - MLP Season 6
The big wrap-up of the season, this is going to be slightly different to the Season 5 wrap-up as I have reviewed every episode. For each episode, I will give a rating out of 5, 5 being brilliant, 1 being poor. Then, I will do a running total and percentage, 80 for an A, 70 for a B and so forth. For reflection, I found Season 5 to be 67.5%, a high C. For the episodes, I will give a short explanation of my score and a link to the review. At the end, I will do some reflection.
The Crystalling
Probably the weakest overall two-parter. It tries to do too many things at once, and it fails. It ends up being a muddled mess which is a bit boring. The two mane stories aren't bad but the Crystalling could have been its own episode.

This two-parter starts with Starlight receiving a letter from Derpy from her old village inviting her to the sunset festival. She is obviously worried about this and has a nightmare where Luna tells her to tell her fears to the mane 6 as they helped her with her problems. The dream sequences are used really well. She talks to the mane 6 and express her fear that they won't accept her, they tell her that the ponies wouldn't have invited her if they didn't want her to go and Twilight suggests she bring a friend along, obviously wanting to go. However, Starlight chooses Trixie who rubs it in with Twilight obviously annoyed, it is a very well done scene that is hilarious. They travel to the town and Starlight is still thinking about her past. She meets the ponies and they all seem really happy she came and even want her help running some of the events which causes her to panic as her leadership was what put her in this situation in the first place. She breaks down and magics everypony away

This episode starts with Rainbow Dash in the WB academy talking about a big week she has planned, when Spitfire walks in annoyed that she has to stay behind for recruits week. Spitfire is used really well in this episode, she is a good leader but is still friendly enough. Oh and Rainbow has come to terms with the Crash name, Spitfire calls her it but Misty doesn't at the end of the episode, just something weird I noticed. Anyway, Dash is flying back and her cutie mark glows, it is a map episode, duo is Dash and Twi, location is Wonderbolts Academy to get a good joke out of Rainbow. They fly to see Spitfire drilling the new recruits, and it is decided that Twi and Dash will help them learn in order to get to know them. Twilight is put in charge of the classroom section to her delight and Rainbow is put in charge of helping to coach. We are introduced to the mane recruits in the classroom scene, Sky, the most confident pony who believes everything is beneath him, Vapor Trail, his wing po

Dodsley's Thoughts - Where The Apple Lies
This episode starts with AJ and Big Mac giving filthy rich his usual supply of zap apple jam. However, when they enter the barn, it seems Applebloom has stocked everything away in crates which she hasn't labelled. She lies and says she knows what is in each crate but when AJ opens them, she finds the zap apple jam. She sorts the issue out with Filthy, who seems quite worried that granny smith might think he was trying to trade cider, which is against Apple family rules. AJ asks why Applebloom lied and says that lies never help, to which Applebloom questions, as AJ never lies. The other apples laugh as AJ used to lie a lot as a filly and it transitions to a flashback. AJ and Big Mac are bickering over who should run the farm. AJ has good ideas, but Big Mac, who talks a lot for irony, says that strength is more important. They are sent into town by Granny who wants them to get some blight spray. In town, they run into Filthy Rich who is recently engaged to Spoiled Milk. Filthy has just t

Dodsley's Thoughts - P.P.O.V. (Pony Point Of View)
This episode starts with Rarity, Pinkie and AJ returning from a boat trip. Twilight is excited to see them as they went to get out of their element and were really looking forward to it. However, it soon appears that things aren't okay and they all seem angry at each other. Twi organizes a meet-up to get them to clear the air, however they just send their pets. By the way, this episode is pretty funny not as funny as some recent episodes but still pretty good. Twilight and Spike goes to see Rarity who tells them that it was AJ's fault and describes her as a pirate, okay then. Also, Spike gets no respect. Twilight says this sounds a bit over-the-top and it doesn't sound like AJ so they go to Pinkie to see her side. She blames it on Rarity, saying she tried to make everything posh and cultured and tried to ruin everything, while Pinkie tried to let her friends have fun with games. AJ is the final pony and she blames it both of the other two, sating that Pinkie was no help and Rarity was

This episode starts with Starlight and Twilight doing magic lessons. Wait, why is Twilight teaching her magic?. Starlight was shown to be her equal if not better in The Cutie Remark. I guess they enjoy magic and Twilight might know more spells. Anyway, Starlight is impressing with her magic even doing a duplication spell but it seems she isn't progressing at all with the friendship side of her learning. Twilight tells her that she should do a lesson by the time they return from a presentation in Canterlot. We get a few good jokes from Spike and they leave with Starlight deciding to combine 5 lessons with the mane 6 into one afternoon to impress Twilight. She gathers the rest of the 6 in the castle and tries to send them to different parts of the castle in order to be as efficient as possible. However, they all habve issues with where they are, Rarity doesn't like the dusty library, Dash needs a good spot for optimal chill-laxing, Shy's animals need different locations and AJ has 80 moo

Dodsley's Thoughts - Viva Las Pegagus
This episode starts with AJ and Fluttershy being called by the map. They are sent to Las Pegasus, basically Las Vegas, and they obviously aren't very happy about it. They meet the owner of a hotel there called Gladmane, who has similar mannerisms to Elvis. They chat and he knows who they are as he is a self-proclaimed 'friendship connoisseur'. He gives them a tour of the resort and they run into several employees who all love Gladmane and call him a true friend. AJ and Flutters seem a bit confused as they can't find a problem, until they hear the familiar tones of Flim and Flam. It turns out they have a friendship problem, but AJ refuses to help and promises to find another problem. Flim and Flam have fallen out over a disagreement in business, and when AJ can't find a problem, she finds that the employees have all fallen out with their friend or partner over similar issues. They both realize that these issues have benefited only one pony; Gladmane. They try and talk to the other ponie

Journal Of Good Animation-Fault in Our Cutie Marks
This episode starts off with the CMC talking to Petunia's parents about her cutie mark, which the parents seem oddly fearful of. The mark is of a skull and two bones, which the parents believe mean she is a pirate. It runs out she is just an archaeologist, which is quite funny, especially as I want to be an archaeologist. Anyway, they go through Ponyville talking about how they have helped tons of ponies and that they could solve any case. However, Sweetie Belle tells them that there may be a time when the challenge is too great. So, we know what this episode is going to be, their big challenge. It turns out a griffon called Gabby is waiting for them at the clubhouse and she wants a cutie mark. We find out that she wanted to help and be kind to her fellow griffons and when the ponies visited in The Lost Treasure Of Griffonstone, she realized that there was groups that were kind to each other. So, she came to Ponyville to see that life and was sent to the CMC by ponies they have helped.

This episode starts with Applejack bucking apples when Dash flies by. AJ tells her that she is practicing for a game called Buck Ball for which AJ has been challenged by Braeburn on behalf of Appleloosa, Dash agrees to join the team to defend Ponyville's honor. The next day, Fluttershy and Pinkie are with the team on their way to practice. The team needs to be made up of a pegagus, a land pony and a unicorn. I should say right now that this episode is really funny, Pinkie has a great appearance. So, Pinkie and Shy are brought in to help the two train while they look for a unicorn. AJ explains the game and they start, with Pinkie showing some good skill which stuns AJ. Flutters is nervous but warms up to the game, putting on a good performance. However, none of the unicorns work out until Pinkie kicks some balls in Snails' path. He catches them with his water buckets so he is put into the team. Dodsley's Thoughts - Dungeons And Discords
It is the Discord episode and one that is important for him after last season's poor attempts. This episode starts with Discord at Fluttershy's but she has to leave to Yakyakistan. This upsets Discord but she tells him that he could spend some time with Spike and Big Mac as they have a meet-up when the mane six leave. Discord is offended by this, calling himself a Mane-sick to their sidekicks. Then, we get the one of the funniest scenes of the show, Discord teleports them to an opposite dimension, leading to opposite fluttershy tearing him a new one. It caught me off-guard and is freaking hilarious. So, Fluttershy tells him that expanding his friends is always good and she heads off to the train tracks. Discords tries to make her stay by using his magic to send the tracks into a volcano, but she makes him correct it. Spike and Big Mac see excited for the ponies to leave. This episode starts with Twilight and Glimmer on the train to the Crystal empire, we get a good joke from Starlight and then we see Spike is also on the train and he is in a disguise so he doesn't get swamped. Starlight mocks him but when they get off the train, there is no one around, and only when Spike removes his disguise do the ponies finally swarm. It takes Twilight way too long to realize changelings are around though. All the ponies are talking about appearances and not believing them and she can't put the dots together. It is a small point but Twi should know. They meet up with the royal guards and Cadence does the hand-shake to prove Twilight's identity. Then, Shining Armour fills them in on the changeling situation and sends Spike with the guards to find the changeling. Journal Of Good Animation - 28 Pranks Later
Today, MLP will be parodying a zombie breakout movie, which is pretty cool. The episode starts with Fluttershy returning home through the woods at night. There appears to be a figure stalking her and her animal friends, but we can clearly hear it is Rainbow Dash, which is quite nice. When they do these prank monster scenes, they usually give no audio or visuals clues to who it is but you can clearly hear Rainbow's voice. She scares Flutters and reveals herself, angering Flutters and her friends so much that she calls a meeting between the mane 6 to discuss it. They are angry with Dash, except for Pinkie who finds it funny. Twilight tells her that the ponies may not like her pranks and she should consider their feelings, giving us the moral quite quickly and it is a nice moral. However, this is the main issue with the episode, they are quite strong with the moral, and this makes the entire episode predictable. Dodsley's Thoughts - The Cart Before The Ponies
This episode starts with the CMC in school and Cheerilee tells the class that tomorrow is the Applewood Derby and each student will get a chance to race but they must get help from an older pony. There are three main prize ribbons for speed, tradition and creativity, which of course appeals to the styles of the CMC. However, they want to try new things, Scootaloo wants to have a change of pace and be creative, AB wants to be the fastest and Belle likes the traditional style cart. It is nice that they are going out of their comfort zone and for an actual reason instead of just being stupid. Also, there is a really repetitive joke from Snips and Snails not wanting to do work, it isn't funny. Anyway, they go to their respective adults, Dash, AJ and Rarity, who all want to the cart their way and aren't really letting the youngsters get involved, they don't want to branch out and they want to win their respective categories. The first Daring Do episode since her big reveal, and it feels like a response to the Daring criticism. Basically, the moral of the story is that it is okay to like one thing over another, and you should respect other people's opinion even if you don't necessarily like them. It is also similar to those who preferred earlier seasons. The moral is handled really well and Quibble doesn't just change his mind, which is not often seen in morals like this. It is a mature moral and it works well with the episode. The episode is good, Quibble plays off Rainbow well, the action is cool as always, and there is some decent comedy as well. I do have a couple of minor issues with it, Quibble gets a bit annoying towards the end and Daring Do is made to look fairly stupid in the episode, she can't solve a simple puzzle and Rainbow comes up with the idea to fly out. The opening of the episode is funny and writes out Twilight well, the convention is realistic and gets Rainbow's fan-girling out of the w

Fluttershy is then annoyed to find out that he is moving back in with his parents as he always takes advantage of their love. I have to say that Fluttershy is handled really well in this episode, she is strong-willed and isn't a push-over. She stands up for herself and her parents, and never goes too far in the other direction. I will talk about this more as we go on though. Zephyr returns home and we get a running joke that Zephyr thinks Rainbow is flirting with him, it is funny enough and adds to his character.

On Your Marks
A decent episode off the back of the CMC getting their marks. A good song, a decent ending and AB learns a decent lesson. I have two issues, they haven't really done the single CMC episodes it set up as it was a good concept, and the opening is really rushed which seems to be a common theme, it wants to do a lot early on.

Gauntlet Of Fire

Spice Up Your Life
A good episode that could have been great. The conflict is good and the song is great, the episode feels fun and quite fresh for the series. The anti-critic moral gets people annoyed and while I can see that, I feel they are arguing against a critic cault, not just critics in general.

Stranger Than Fan Fiction

Score: 5/5
dodsleycritic.deviantart.com/a…
The Cart Before The Ponies
This is probably the worst episode of the season, the ending just doesn't work with the plot. The CMC were clearly ignored in the episode and the older ponies just feign ignorance. It goes too far in the wrong direction. It isn't an awful episode, the song is nice and there is some good comedy but the ending and behavior of AJ, Rarity and Dash feels insulting.

The Times They Are A Changeling

P.P.O.V (Pony Point Of View)
A fine episode ruined by a strange ass ending. The ending makes no sense in the episode's logic, I get they were over-the-top but they all remembered a storm, it makes their bickering seem pointless and it weakens the moral. To Where and Back Again
One of my favorite two-parters. It does most things right, it has good comedy, it has tension, it has a well-paced story with character development and great moments. It has a satisfying conclusion and a bit of a cliff-hanger. It ends Glimmer's first arc off fantastically and it is really entertaining. I do wish it would have been built up more but it is still great anyway.

dodsleycritic.deviantart.com/a…

So, that is all the episodes of the 6th season. A quick bit of maths reveals the average is 71.6% which is better than last season and a B season which is great. I did really enjoy this season and I could watch most of the episodes. There were nice moments and all the songs are very good. If I could pick a few faults, the main two I have is rushed stories and predictable stories. A lot of the episodes either followed a template or wanted to do too much. The end of the season seemed to get back on track and a lot of the better episode are towards the back end. It would have been nice to get a bit more Starlight development but I really liked the episodes she was in. I don't really get the feeling of disappointment in the community at the season, it was a good season that delivered some great episodes and introduced new characters. I feel the comedy picked up this season and a lot of the episodes are hilarious. The characterizations were often great and where they weren't were the worst episodes, such as The Cart Before The Ponies. There aren't any episodes I would put in a bottom ten and there are one or two episodes I could put in my top 10 such as The Times They Are A Changeling.
Now, Season 7 is important for the show and it is starting without a two-parter which is odd.So to finish off this wrap-up, I'll chuck a bit of a wish-list out there for the fun of it.

She breaks down and magics everypony away with Trixie using a smoke bomb to get her out of there. They head back with Trixie telling her it is best not to think about your mistakes. When they return, Starlight wants to talk to the mane 6 but they all seem to be acting weird and nasty towards her. 'Pinkie' is hilarious here. She runs to the castle where Spike is again rude and Twilight tells her to never return to the town and cut her losses before heading into the mane room. Starlight goes to sleep and again has a nightmare where nopony talks to her and Twilight scalds her for her actions and going against her wishes. Again, Luna intervenes but in the moon and in a panicked rush. She tells Starlight that the changelings are back and she needs to get help, waking her up. She goes straight to Trixie and after proving it is the real her, she tells her about the changelings. They go to the castle, where they find the mane 6 being mean to Spike so they decide to leave as nothing is different there. No, they find the mane 6 and Spike communicating with Chrysalis and celebrating the fact they have captured every important pony outside the crystal empire. They then noticed Trixie and Star who hide using an invisibility spell. They teleport back to the wagon where Thorax meets them and tells them that the crystal empire has also been attacked and Sunburst sent him to get Twilight. Starlight is put in charge but doesn't know what to do, saying there is noone with powerful magic left to help them. Annoyed, Discord appears with a good line. Discord learns that Fluttershy has been captured and is furious in a pretty cool scene. Discord really helps this two-parter with his comedy. They teleport to the changeling hive to end part 1. Part 2 starts with Discord annoyed his teleportation spell didn't work. After trying to ride in on a flying pig, Thorx explains that Chrysalis' Throne soaks up outside magic, making Discord, Trixie and Starlight pretty useless. They decide to storm in and destroy the throne, allowing them to use their magic. They also decide to come up with a code word to make sure they don't fall prey a changeling and Trixie suggests 'klutzy draconequus' which the group agrees on, angering Discord. Trixie and Discord play off each other really well in this episode and it makes the episode flow quite well. They proceed through the hive, until they get lost. Starlight asks how long it takes for changelings to get hungry and Thorax notes he hasn't been hungry since he made friends and that he would normally always be hungry. Discord attracts attention by shouting and a patrol hunts them down which they avoid using Trixie's smoke bombs and Thorax. Starlight sees some changelings fly off of the group and they decide to follow them to the throne room. They need to get past a guarded door so Discord does some of his routine and then gets chased away. He is heading back when he hears Fluttershy but doesn't fall for the trap until he turns around into tons of Fluttershy changelings. We get back to the group where 'Discord' emerges but when they realize he doesn't know the code, Thorax spots the trap. Trixie decides to take the bait and traps the changeling with her handkerchief trick in a pretty tense and heartwarming scene. The remaneing two split up to avoid capture and Starlight makes it to the throne room where we see all her friends captured. Chrysalis laughs as she approaches and says she thought Starlight as such a small threat she didn't even capture her. She is then trapped by the changelings, and Chrysalis brags about how she has already won and noone is going to help her. Starlight reminds her of Thorax and she is angered by the name saying she will make an example of him. There is a blue shimmer in Starlight's eye and Chrysalis realizes this is Thorax. She turns around to see Starlight trying to bring the throne down. and she gives chase, forcing Glimmer into hiding. We get a pretty tense scene, where Chrysalis talks about feeding her family for generations. Starlight tries to propose that they don't need to forcefully take love using Thorax as an example. This angers Chrysalis who then sucks the love out of Thorax. Starlight tells him to give him all his love and this blasts her back as well as making him more colorful and fully formed. The other changelings start to follow suit and this causes the nest to collapse, and the throne collapses onto of Chrysalis. The mane 6 and the princesses emerge from their prisons and Luna thanks Starlight. Chrysalis emerges from the rumble but Starlight approaches her trying to turn her to good instead of revenge. The parallels between the two really make the scenes and provide some emotion as well as tension. It feels like an warranted ending to Starlight's first arc and it works really well. However, Chrysalis doesn't want to hear it and runs away, promising revenge. Discord suggests tea at Fluttershy's to celebrate but Starlight takes them to the sunset festival. She apologizes for running off and explains herself and they accept her again. We also get a great wrap-up between Trixie and Discord. Overall, I love this two-parter. It is the best two-parter since Twilight's Kingdom and it does a lot of things right. The only issue I can lobby is that it comes a bit early in the Starlight arc. She has completed this major task in what is her 4th episode. It feels a little rushed but that is about it for complaints. The characters are all in character and grow where they need to, the moral is great, Starlight shines, there is good comedy, the tension is built well and Chrysalis is great as usual.

We are introduced to the mane recruits in the classroom scene, Sky, the most confident pony who believes everything is beneath him, Vapor Trail, his wing pony who is much less confident, and Angel Wings, the second Make-A-Wish pony. In this scene, we get a few good jokes and we learn that Vapor is worried about the solo trials. Outside, Rainbow is watching Sky fly and realizes that Vapor is giving him boosts in order to support him which he doesn't know about. This means that Vapor is less focused on her own skills and more on Sky, who doesn't know he isn't as good as he seems. This is the friendship problem, and Rainbow and Twilight have two different approaches, Twilight wants to outright tell Sky what Vapor is doing, while Dash wants to keep it from him as it would ruin his confidence which you don't mess with. Dash is really good here and shows some responsibility and strength in her character, as well as being quite funny. They go see Vapor and confront her, she says that she was an only pony while Sky had a large family, she got too much attention and he didn't get any so she help him in order to become his friend, it is a pretty cute backstory. She supported him for ages while he remained unaware of this. Rainbow offers to help Vapor on her acrobatics while Twi helps Sky with his flying. Vapor does quite well and enjoys herself, while Sky struggles and isn't really trying. Sky continues to boast about how he is going to be a wonderbolt and how he is going to be picked straight out of the recruits which causes Vapor to break and reveal she has been helping him. He feels offended and feels she was trying to embarrass him, completely shattering his confidence. Twilight and Dash both realize they have messed up with Dash saying that Twilight was right as Sky wasn't even trying in earlier practices. However, Sky is now doing horribly and Spitfire wants to know why one of her most promising students is performing poorly, so Dash has to fix this. Twilight goes to Sky and compares his flying to her friendship, she needed to grow and practice with her friends in order to develop into the princess of friendship. Dash sees Vapor and explains she could be a really good flyer and Vapor admits she wanted to do this for Sky but now actually wants to do this for herself. Sky and Vapor reconcile and help each other with their flying. With reduced confidence, Sky actually puts effort into his practicing, and he is able to help Vapor with her aerobatics. They both perform great in the trials and we get a few good jokes about them potentially being better than RD. Then, they head home and RD has to head back due to an emergency. Overall, this episode is pretty great. Vapor and Sky are decent characters with a good relationship, every character is characterized well, there are a few different morals and lessons in there which are all good. There is some decent comedy as well even if it is in the background. The only issues I have are mainly nitpicks such as Twilight smiling when Vapor reveals her secret to Sky. Like, I know she is excited about being right but jesus Twi.

Filthy has just taken over his father's business and wants to sell apple cider in his store. AJ thinks it is a good plan but Big Mac tells him to back off. AJ offers a three can trial shipment to see how it sells and to prove herself. However, Granny won't agree to it as it is family tradition and cider expires quickly. AJ then has to go into town to tell Rich the deal is off, with Big Mac mocking her. However, he is annoyed as he put work into a display and she promised him and threatens to cut off ties with the farm unless she gives him cider. She then lies and says that Granny is sick and they are struggling at the moment. Filthy backs down and apologizes, with Big Mac angry at his sister. Later, Rich then visits the apples to give some flowers to Granny so AJ hides Granny while Big Mac keeps them distracted with anecdotes. It goes on like this for a while, as AJ keeps on lying to protect herself but things get more and more out of hand as they go to visit Granny in hospital. AJ makes Big Mac pretend to be Granny but he is taken in for surgery which Granny believes to be a presentation about Apple Blight. She almost amputates Big Mac which is strangely funny and AJ reveals her lies. She and Big Mac both apologize to each other and Big Mac accepts he should listen more. Granny tells them she will be running the farm for a long time and threatens Filthy, tying in his worry from earlier. We cut back to the present where we get a nice wrap-up and a good moral about learning from mistakes. This episode is okay, it isn't bad but it isn't amazing. It tells a good story which has some decent comedy as well as likable and understandable characters. It reaches a good climax with a solid moral. However, it is a standard story, it isn't majorly entertaining in the middle and it isn't incredibly funny. Not every episode can be amazing and this is an example of that.
Dodsley's Thoughts - Where The Apple Lies
Maybe the apples laughed as they have seen previous episodes.

AJ is the final pony and she blames it both of the other two, sating that Pinkie was no help and Rarity was her over-the-top self. I like this story best as Pinkie and Rarity are in flanderisation and it is really funny. Twilight goes back to the castle with Spike to discover what really happened and after a few moments, she realizes what happened. Then, a lot of nonsense takes place. So, she gets the three down to the docks and Spike asks how they got back, it turns out they never really left the docks. Well, that makes no sense. Anyway, Twi takes them out to sea and shows them that the shipwreck was caused by the cucumber sandwiches attracting a tri-horned bunyip, which again makes no sense. How did they not see this creature? How did the storm not effect the ship? Surely they had to be out at sea for this creature to be present. Seriously, this is a confusing ass summary that makes little to no sense. At least the moral is nice I guess. Even good friends need to communicate. They each make up and Spike gets some ice cream for his troubles, yay. Overall, this episode is fairly weak, it isn't awful, the moral is nice, the ending is good and the humor is pretty funny. But the story wraps up so suddenly and it makes absolutely no sense. It takes away from the rest of the episode as it becomes just stupid bickering.

Considering that Sausage Party is a parody of Pixar movies I'm wondering…

What if somebody made a parody of Studio Ghibli films?

What are your thoughts on that?
